Digital Signage

Digital signage provides a way to keep the public informed about important and upcoming events by featuring text, graphics, RSS feeds, videos, web images, and campus-wide safety alert bulletins on flat-screen HD monitors.

Far beyond the days of a looping DVD, digital signage is web-based and can be updated by logging onto a website. Signs can be completely customized and can be continually refreshed by adding new text content to templates, or by uploading various file types including JPEG, QuickTime, and Flash. Signs can link to live data from web pages, RSS text feeds including UCSD News, RSS photo feeds, scheduling databases (such as DEA EMS used by the Price Center), and streaming video. In emergencies alert messages can be displayed on the screen to keep the public informed about events.

What is Carousel?
Carousel is a digital signage system developed by Tightrope Media Systems, a Minnesota-based company. After reasearching several companies Media Services chose to support Carousel as the UC San Diego signage provider because of its ease of use, great features, pricing, and scalability. Media Services manages a Carousel server and departments who want Carousel digital signage recharge Media Services for the cost of the Carousel software, licencing, and maintanance.

Media Services can assist departments with their digital signage needs including needs assessment, equipment purchase and installation, sign design and content development, and software training.
